Travel

This multi-day itinerary is based in the North of Norway, a stunning but remote part of the world.

Air travel is not included in the tour.

On the Tour

Tour details coming soon, see our last trip report here.

Day 1 – Arrival

After meeting at Alta airport we will take a scenic drive by private bus through the fjords to the Skjervoy/Kvænangen area, where we will be based for your trip. Your arrival day is to settle in, and enjoy the cosy lodge, scenic views and potential aurora displays.

Day 2-7

Each day will focus on searching for orca and other wildlife. After breakfast, we’ll have a brief morning meeting before heading out on our whale safari. With limited daylight, we will be on the water for 4-5 hours daily. Returning in the mid-afternoon, hot soup will be waiting after braving the elements! You will have some time to review your pictures or have a snooze. Our evenings are relaxed after dinner, join us for some Aurora Borealis photography, evening talks, or general banter in the lounge.

Day 8 – Departure

Our bus transfer will take you to Alta airport for your flight to Oslo, soak up the last of the scenery as you relive your incredible week.

Swimming with Whales

Our in-water encounters are all snorkel based, with no scuba diving. Our expert guides will observe the behaviour of the whales deciding whether an interaction will be welcomed. Numbers in the water are mindfully managed to protect the welfare of the wildlife. We are purely observers in this wild environment, guided by local experts with a lifetime of knowledge working with these animals.

The boat takes a maximum of 8 guests, allowing you the maximum opportunity to enjoy this bucket list moment without the crowds.

Life in the Fjord

In the evenings enjoy the quiet life the arctic circle has to offer, with no one else in sight be mesmerised by the aurora with no light pollution. Situated on the edge of the fjord, there are no facilities nearby, enjoy the beauty of this stark wilderness.

Accommodation details are to be confirmed.

Who is the tour for?

This Arctic expedition is for the thrill-seeking nature lover, looking to experience a once-in- a-lifetime encounter with the world’s top apex predator. This tour is not for the faint- hearted, and we encourage experienced snorkellers only.

To join our in-water activities you must be comfortably able to swim a minimum of 100m unaided in open water.

With the remote location we operate in, there are some physical challenges such as boarding the boat without a ladder and walking in icy conditions. Temperatures here are extreme reaching well below freezing, the right equipment is a must, along with the right attitude.

We aim to be at sea for 6 days, for the maximum daylight available, however, this is not always possible given the extreme and challenging environment we are working in.

Tour expectations

The natural world is very unpredictable, not a zoo or an aquarium, therefore sightings are never guaranteed. We can however promise that you are visiting a wildlife hotspot with a highly experienced and passionate team. Our boats are highly seaworthy for the Arctic conditions, which are closely monitored by our experienced skippers. We will do our very best to give you a great experience!
